DeVotie - 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon
The original idea for Sigma Alpha Epsilon was Noble Leslie DeVotie’s—leader of the eight founding members and considered the most revered and influential. His motive was to perpetuate the warm friendships he and his friends had formed at the University of Alabama. In 1855, he conceptualized the ideals of a fraternity with a few of his friends as they walked along the banks of the Black Warrior River. On March 9th, 1856 they assembled for the purpose of organizing the Fraternity.
DeVotie is credited with developing SAE’s name and Ritual. He graduated as valedictorian of his class in 1856. He then enrolled at Princeton Theological Seminary, from which he graduated in 1859 as an Ordained Baptist Minister. On February 12, 1861, he made a misstep boarding a steamer at Fort Morgan and fell into the water. Three days later, his body was washed ashore and was classified as the first casualty of the Civil War. DeVotie is buried at Linwood Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia.
We introduce you to DeVotie. This flagship Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic representation of the appellation’s preeminent varietal. Notes of black cherry, blackberry and plum are complemented by hits of toasted oak, dried currant and baking spice. Fine-grained tannins and ample brightness on the palate give way to a polished mouthfeel and exceptionally long finish.
